HALF OURS 2 year old graduates wire to wire at Churchill

MINIT TO STARDOM went two-for-two for this barn while lowering a course record  A Louisiana-bred stakes winner at two and multiple stakes-placed last term while a member of the Al Stall, Jr. barn, the Benoit homebred scored by 3 1/4 lengths on the trainer change in a main-track Delaware optional claimer May 8. Backed at 3-2 returning to the grass for the first time since finishing second in a restricted Fair Grounds optional claimer Mar. 21, the bay had things all to herself up front through splits of :22.58 and :44.51 and scampered clear to post an easy 2 1/2-length tally. The winner is a full to Wild About Star, SW, $188,200, who annexed the The Very One S. for these same connections May 18. A talented turf sprinter herself, Wild About Marie produced Star Guitar coltsin 2017, 2018 and 2019.

OUR LUCKY STAR wired the field sprinting at Lone Star to earn her cap and gown. Trained by Karl Broberg she is owned by End Zone Athletics, Inc. She was bred in Arkansas by Bill Morrison.


MAJOR RIDGE by STAR GUITAR wins his third

MAJOR RIDGE broke his maiden in the fall at the Fair Grounds and followed that with a second. Early this year he closed strongly and went from last to first for the victory - his second - for owner/breeder  David Thomas Rogers. The 3-year-old gelding was claimed out of that winning race and is now owned by Dat Right Racing and trained by Corale Richards. Today he won his third race going a mile on the dirt at Evangeline Downs. He ran close to the pace and then cleared to win by almost 3 lengths.

A month ago C C HARRIS made it 2 in a row with a determined inside finish racing 6 furlongs at Evangeline Downs   The 4-year-old gelding was claimed last out by Karl Broberg for End Zone Athletics Inc. He made good on the claim stepping up into allowance company and winning. Two weeks later he landed in third and  today he improved on that  - winning still again and bringing his earnings close to $100,000,


GABBY'S HALF by HALF OURS notches her 3rd win

Racing  7 1/2 furlongs in allowance company on the turf at Evangeline Downs, GABBY'S HALF wore down her foe and won by 1/2 to notch victory #3. She was racing for the first time for owner/trainer Victor Arceneaux who claimed her out of her last start.  She made a quick return on his claim.  The 5 year old mare  was bred by Clear Creek Stud, LLC

ANDTHEBANDPLAYEDON has earned over $66,000 to date. Earlier on the same card, STAR BANJO also won for the second time. He raced 1 1/6 on the turf for his breeder/owner and trainer Garland Goins and won by a length and a half bringing his earnings over $33,000.

As a 2 year old, ASONGFORYOU cleared his $400,000 OBSAPR grad rival by a neck to win his first start last fall at Indiana Grand  Back at 3, he was 3rd in his first try and today stalked the pace and then hit the wire in front to win sprinting on the all weather track at Arlington Park. He owned by Maggi Moss, was bred by Jerold Murrell (LA) and is trained by Thomas M. Amoss. ASONGFORYOU  has not been off the board in 4 starts with 2 of them wins.

MINIT TO STARDOM won her first three starts by a combined 18 3/4 lengths, including the Louisiana Lassie S. at Fair Grounds late in her 2-year-old season and a Churchill optional claimer last May. She settled for sixth in the prestigious GI Test S. at Saratoga in August, and was second in each of three subsequent tries against fellow Louisiana-breds. Last seen dropping out of stakes company to be second in a grassy optional claimer at Fair Grounds Mar. 21, she was 3-5 here off the trainer switch from Al Stall, Jr. Immediately in command, the Benoit homebred cruised through splits of :22.34 and :45.22 and glided under the line with a 3 1/4-length cushion. The winner has 2-year old, yearling and foal full-brothers. Lifetime Record: SW, 8-4-3-0, $188,040.

Virginia Lazenby's homebred TAP DANCE STAR added even more black type running second in the $75,000 Evangeline Downs Distaff on Friday night. TAP DANCE STAR had been last in the field of six through the early stages, but closed well and beat out Hyper Piper for second. Recently she was third  in the off the turf Red Camelia S at the Fair Grounds. She had already garnered a stakes placing in the Louisiana Legends Soiree Stakes earlier this year, and another in the 1 mile Lookout S. at Delta Downs. She is trained by Oscar  Modica.

OURS TO RUN by HALF OURS wins 5th stakes in a row taking the Carousel at Oaklawm

Ours To Run declared her intention to repeat as the older Filly or Mare Champion Louisiana Bred with her victory in the Carousel Stakes at Oaklawn Park in Arkansas on Saturday. The Carousel was the daughter of Half Ours fifth straight stake win with the streak beginning last May at Evangeline Downs. Given the summer off she returned with a win in the Happy Ticket Stakes at Fair Grounds which was followed by her win in the Louisiana Champions Day Ladies Sprint. In 2019 she had won the Louisiana Premier Night Matron (for the second time). In the Carousel, Ours To Run stalked the early pace from the outside then went five wide on the turn the pulled away from Grade II winner(and GI placed) Mia Mischief in the stretch to win by an easy three and three quarters lengths in a final time of 1:10:84 on the sloppy Oaklawn surface. Owned by Colonel Thoroughbreds LLC (Kevin Atwood), the filly bred by Clifford Grum has now won eleven races from nineteen starts and has earned $427,988.

Recently he followed his second place finish in the LA Bred Premier Night Sprint Stakes with an allowance win at the Fair Grounds going 6 furlongs on the dirt,  MONTE MAN had a 7 race winning streak in 2017 - 2018 with 5 of those in stakes company. Racing a mile at the Fair Grounnds,  3 year old colt NUGGETSOFKNOWLEDGE hustled out of the gate 5 wide, pressed the pace and was on the lead coming into the stretch. He pushed on to win by over 4 lengths in a MSW. He is owned by Allied Racing Stable, LLC  and trained by  William B. Bradley. It was his 5th start and he has been on the board for all but the first.

While still a maiden, BETO had already placed in the D S Shine Young Futurity at Evangeline Downs and in the Louisiana Cup Juvenile S..He broke his maiden by over 5 lengths at Remington Park. Today he quickly gained the lead and sprinting at Delta Downs and won by over 2 lengths. The three-year-old gelding is now trained by Lee Thomas for new owner Keith Plaisance.

 

At the Fair Grounds three-year-old filly SAY YES AGAIN broke her maiden by 5 lengths. She was claimed out of the race by Susan and Richard Piper and trainer Sam David,Jr. We wish her new connections the best.

Towards the end of last year, ROCKIN SUNDAY MASS  wired the field to win racing 6 1/2 furlongs at Delta. Today she romped by almost 6 lengths in allowance company again at Delta. She has earned over $94,000 in 6  starts for her owner/breeder Brittlyn Stable, Inc. and trainer  Jose M. Camejo. This filly has a record of 6: 3-2-1 and therefore has won 50% and never been off the board. Keep and eye on this one!
